Change service provider without changing your Mobile Number

If you would like to change your current telecom provider but you afraid because shifting services means your mobile number will also get changed, then be happy. Because now you can do it.

Department of Telecom has issued a notification stating that long awaited Mobile Number Portability (MNP) will finally be available by September 20.This means you will be able to shift your telecom service providers without having to change your numbers just by paying a small fee.

From 20th September onwards this service will available to consumers at least in Delhi, Mumbai, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Chennai, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka and by March 20 2010 the service will be available to consumers in the rest of the country.

TRAI has made it clear that the fees that users will have to pay for number portability will be only be a nominal amount (about Rs. 300 according to a story done by The Economic Times) and the maximum time it will take a user to shift providers will be two days.
